Yesterday's edition of TBA Today included an obituary for the late TBA Executive Director Gil Campbell, with information for a Knoxville memorial service on Saturday. There will be a second service for Campbell in Nashville, a celebration of life, on Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Pike, with a reception following.

Former Executive Director of the Tennessee Bar Association Gil Campbell died on Friday in Nashville. He was 84. An East Tennessee native, Campbell worked as the Executive Director of the Decatur/DeKalb Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta for 20 years prior to beginning his tenure at the TBA in 1983. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, a captain in the U.S. Army and a fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation and the Tennessee Bar Foundation. There will be two services in his honor. A celebration of life will be held in Nashville on Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Nashville, 4815 Franklin Pike, with a reception following. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville, 620 State Street, at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Memorial donations can be made in his name to the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Knoxville attorney William Mitchell Cramer died on Monday. He was 68. Cramer was a University of Tennessee law graduate. He served as assistant law director and deputy law director for the City of Knoxville, and went on to become a partner at the law firm of Norton, Spangler and Cramer before he retired. Memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church Go Campaign or the National Parkinson Foundation. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday at Salem Baptist Church, with funeral services to follow.

James Harrison Bostick Jr. died Wednesday (Feb. 15). He was 89. He graduated from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and had a more than 50-year career in legal practice. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. A funeral was held today at 10 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Michael Louis Frayser died Tuesday (Feb. 14) in Memphis. He was 68. A graduate of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, Frayser enjoyed a 28-year career as an investment banker before switching careers to become a civil litigator. He had served as a Marine in the Vietnam War and earned several medals, including the Purple Heart. Visitation was today at St. Louis Catholic Church. A private military honors ceremony will take place tomorrow.

Nashville lawyer Michel G. Kaplan died on Wednesday. He was 70. Kaplan was a Vanderbilt Law School graduate originally hailing from Pasco, Washington. He practiced tax and estate planning law with Sherrard, Roe, Voigt and Harbison. His opinion on tax issues was often sought by writers from the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Fortune and Money. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Sunday at Congregation Micah, 2001 Old Hickory Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Tennessee Golf Foundation's First Tee Program, Vanderbilt University, Congregation Micah, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Former Criminal Court Judge Doug Meyer died Sunday night in Nashville. He was 84. The Chattanoogan reports that Meyer, who had also served as a judge in Chattanooga City Court, retired from his post as criminal court judge when his term ended in 2006. He is survived by his wife, Carol, as well as a son who is an attorney in Nashville.

Nashville lawyer Christina Nicole Effertz died in January, a colleague at Cumberland Trust and Investment Company reports. Effertz had worked for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California (NDCA), the Federal Community Defender's Office in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office and the Social Security Administration. Since 2014, Effertz served as Fiduciary Counsel for Cumberland Trust. In addition to her legal career, Effertz was active in the Ultimate Frisbee community where she played professionally and coached many young players.

Memphis lawyer Edward Trump Hamlet passed away on Monday at the age of 86. A graduate of the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, Hamlet served in the United States Air Force prior to his career as an attorney. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Carolyn Hamlet. Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church. Visitation will precede the funeral service at 11 a.m., and there will be a reception in the church parlor at 3:30 p.m.

Maryville attorney Joseph H. Nicholson passed away suddenly on Thursday. He was 69. In his career, Nicholson represented people who were fatally or catastrophically injured due to defective products or the negligence of others. He received an AV Preeminient rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and was the recipient of the American Association for Justice’s Award of Excellence. Visitation will be held tonight at 5 p.m. at Smith Mortuary in Maryville, with services to follow at 7 p.m.
