Knoxville lawyer Peter Dwight Van de Vate died on April 25. He was 56. Van de Vate graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law and was licensed in 1988. He practiced family law in Knoxville at the firm of Finkelstein, Kern, Steinberg and Cunningham. A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan, 425 N. Cedar Bluff Road in Knoxville on Friday at 5 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan.

Dirk Allen Daniel of Rutledge died yesterday at his home. He was 41. He graduated from the George C. Taylor College of Law. With his office in Rutledge, Dirk practiced law in Grainger and surrounding counties for the past 17 years, he also held the position of county attorney for Grainger County. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Smith-Reagan Funeral Home in Rutledge, with the family receiving friends starting at 1 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Nashville attorney Theodore George Pappas died on April 18. He was 92. Pappas, a North Carolina native, served in the U.S. Army, trained in Russian and military intelligence, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He graduated from Vanderbilt Law and later joined Bass Berry and Sims in 1966, where he was the firm's first managing partner. Pappas was also a former Nashville Bar Association president. Visitation will be held tomorrow at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church from 4 -7 p.m., with a Trisagion at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the same church. Donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4905 Franklin Pike, Nashville.

Henry Hooker, a Nashville attorney who helped transform the Iroquois Steeplechase into a million-dollar fundraiser for a children’s hospital, died today, the Tennessean reports. He was 84. Hooker served two years in the U.S. Army and graduated from Tulane Law School before joining the firm of Hooker and Hooker and practicing with his brother, John Jay Hooker Jr. He was also an entrepreneur who had many business ventures. He served on the boards of Fisk University, Montgomery Bell Academy and Ensworth School. Funeral details will be posted when available.

Longtime leader of the Tennessee Fair Housing Council Tracey McCartney has died following an illness. McCartney joined the council in 1998, providing leadership, management and legal service. A University of Alabama School of Law graduate, McCartney's clerkship with the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program gave her experience that led her to her career. She was one of the inaugural employees of the Central Alabama Fair Housing Center, which was established in Montgomery in 1995.

Chattanooga attorney John Bartlett “Bart” Quinn died on Wednesday. He was 55. Quinn was a labor and employment lawyer with Chambliss, Bahner and Stophel for many years. He served on the Tennessee Trial Court Vacancy Commission, the Tennessee Judicial Nominating Committee, was chairman of the City of Chattanooga Transportation Board and was campaign director for Sen. Bo Watson. Athens lawyer John E. Linn died on March 19. He was 79. Linn was a Chattanooga native and a University of Cincinnati School of Law graduate. He started his legal career as a title attorney for TVA and then opened a private practice in Athens in 1969, where he worked until his retirement in 2015. He was a past president of the McMinn-Meigs Bar Association. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the McMinn Regional Humane Society, 209 Alford Street, Athens.

Eugene G. Hale of Athens died on Friday. He was 85. Hale was a native of McMinn County and graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Law in 1957. He practiced law in Chattanooga for over 55 years, and also served as the president of the McMinn County Regional Humane Society. Services were held for Hale yesterday. Memorial contributions can be made to the McMinn County Regional Humane Society, 219 Alfred Street, Athens.

Knoxville lawyer Robert Fletcher Worthington died on Friday. He was 85. Worthington was raised in Clinton, served in the U.S. Army and attended the University of Tennessee College of Law. Alongside Howard Baker, Worthington formed the firm of Baker Worthington in 1964, which grew to become the largest firm in Tennessee until it merged to form Baker, Donelson, Bearman and Caldwell in 1994. Worthington served as General Counsel of the 1982 World's Fair, the Knoxville Utilities Board, the Tennessee Valley Industrial Committee, as well as the Tennessee Gas Association. He was a member of the first class of Leadership Knoxville, former Vice President and Director of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Knoxville Public Building Authority. A celebration of life will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church Knoxville, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. Memorials can be made to Zoo Knoxville, 3500 Knoxville Zoo Drive.

Nashville lawyer Michael Alva Geracioti died on March 16. He was 57. Born in Ohio, Geracioti received his law degree from the Ohio State University College of Law and later moved to Nashville. He practiced with Levine, Orr, and Geracioti, focusing on defending physicians in malpractice suits. A memorial service for him will be held on March 31 at Benton Chapel, 411 21st Ave South, in Nashville at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael Geracioti Fund at Blair School of Music in Nashville.
