Nashville attorney Courtney Elizabeth Knight died on Oct. 23 at the age of 48. Born in Florida, Knight moved to Nashville as a child. She graduated from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis in 1997 and worked as an attorney for the State of Tennessee. A celebration of life will be held in early November. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy.

Randolph “Andy” Veazey, a longtime resident of Davidson County, died Oct. 25. Veazey was a partner with the law firm of Veazey & Tucker. He was admitted to the Tennessee bar in 1979 after obtaining his law degree from the Nashville School of Law in 1978. His practice was in the realm of insurance defense litigation, including workers compensation, construction litigation, products liability and tort liability. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 6 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested for donations to be made to Nashville School of Law.

Former Columbia attorney and longtime community banker Beverly Douglas, Jr., passed away Wednesday, The Columbia Daily Herald reports. He was 92. Born in Nashville in 1926, Douglas was much admired for his intelligence and the genuine interest he took in other people’s lives. He received his law degree from Vanderbilt University in 1950 and practiced law with the Nashville firm Douglas and Douglas before joining the US Navy and serving as an intelligence officer during the Korean War in 1951. It was in 1956 when Douglas arrived in Columbia to practice law with MacFarland, Colley and Douglas. A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. tomorrow at First Presbyterian Church, 801. S. High St., with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m.

Elliott Ozment, one of Nashville's leading immigration attorneys, died at age 71. Ozment, founder and managing attorney of Ozment Law and a former Democratic state lawmaker, died after complications following a stroke. A 1975 graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Law, he became known for representing underdog causes in the city, including representing a woman shackled during child birth as she faced deportation, challenging the city’s involvement in the 287(g) federal deportation program and working to defeat a referendum that would have made English the official language of Metro government. He was also active in the TBA and its Immigration Section. Funeral arrangements will be posted when available.

Nashville lawyer William Billington Bruce died Oct. 12. A graduate of Father Ryan High School and Vanderbilt University, Bruce enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. Following an honorable discharge, he entered the University of Tennessee Law School, graduating in 1973. Bruce built a successful law practice and practiced for nearly four decades. He also was active in the community, serving on the Criminal Justice Act Panel and co-founding the Oasis Center. Visitation services will be held tomorrow from 4-8 p.m. at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home and starting at 11 a.m. on Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church. A funeral mass will follow at 1 p.m. Friday.

Judge Sue McKnight Evans, of Old Hickory, died on Oct. 8. She was 85. Evans began her career as a teacher, going on to earn her law degree from Nashville School of Law, and entering into private practice in Nashville. She was elected General Sessions Judge for Division IX in 1996. She successfully ran for re-election twice, and completed her service on the bench in 2014 at the end of her term. Evans was appointed to the Court of the Judiciary where she served two terms from 1999 until 2007. In 2010, she was recognized by the National Association of Women Judges. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at noon, tomorrow at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 188 Thompson Lane, in Nashville. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Father Ryan High School Library.

A celebration of life for Knoxville attorney LeAnn Mynatt, who died on Oct. 3 at the age of 53, will be held on Oct. 21 at West Hills Baptist Church, 409 Winston Road, at 12:15 p.m. The family will receive friends at a reception following the ceremony. Memorials may be made to West Hills Baptist Church or the Gynecologic Cancers Education Fund (checks payable to UT Medical Center, c/o Development Office, 2121 Medical Center Way, Knoxville, TN 37920 - memo to Gyn Cancer Education). James "Jim" Spray Kidd died Sept. 28 in Fayetteville. He was 89. Kidd graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Business Administration and a law degree the same year. He practiced law from August 1951 to August 2018 and had active career in public service, including as circuit court clerk and district attorney general for Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall and Moore counties from 1966 to 1990. Kidd was a member of the TBA Pro Bono Committee, Legal Services of South Central Tennessee and Tennessee Commission for Children and Youth. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Fayetteville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church or Gideons International.

LeAnn Mynatt, a shareholder in Baker Donelson’s Knoxville office, died Wednesday following a long battle with ovarian cancer. A well-known environmental law attorney, Mynatt was diagnosed with cancer in 2013. Since that time she was actively involved in advocacy for ovarian cancer awareness, hosting the Comedy for a Cause event, as well as leading a team of runners at road races. In her professional life, Mynatt served as the co-chair of the KBA Environmental Section for many years and was a past chair of the TBA Environmental Law section. She was a Fellow of both the Knoxville Bar and Tennessee Bar Foundations, the founder and chair of her firm’s BakerGreen Committee, the mentor coordinator for Baker’s Women's Initiative and the recruiting chair of the Knoxville office. Information on funeral services are not yet available.

Former U.S. Rep. Marilyn Lloyd, the first woman elected to Congress from Tennessee for a full term, died on Wednesday at 89, The Times Free Press reports. Lloyd received the Democratic nomination for Congress in August 1974 after her husband, Mort, was killed in a plane crash after winning the Democratic primary earlier that month. She defeated two-term Congressman E. Lamar Baker later that year. Twenty years later, she chose not to run for reelection, leaving Congress without ever losing a race. Her family will receive friends at Chattanooga Church, 6188 Adamson Circle, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, with a celebration of life at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
