Former TBA president and Humboldt attorney George Griffin Boyte died Monday. He was 94. A graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Law, Boyte served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, then returned to Humboldt, where he practiced law for more than 60 years. He also served as city judge and city attorney in Humboldt, as well as in the Tennessee Legislature and the Tennessee Constitutional Convention. Boyte was president of the Gibson County Bar Association, and in 1978, president of the Tennessee Bar Association. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sept. 7 at The Church at Sugar Creek in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m., with the service to follow. Memorials may be sent to the Rotary Foundation, The Church at Sugar Creek, Gideons International, Young Life, or the donor’s choice.

Jackson attorney Susan Hays was killed in a wreck on Interstate 40 in Dickson County Saturday when a semi-truck suffered a blowout, crossed the median and hit her car head on, the Jackson Sun reports. Jackson residents John McCutchen was also killed in the crash. Hays was a graduate of the Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and practiced in Jackson.

Memorial services will be held Saturday for Hartsville attorney Betty Lou Taylor, who died Wednesday at the age of 65. A graduate of the YMCA Law School in Nashville, Taylor practiced in Hartsville with Donoho, Taylor & Taylor. Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday before the service in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Haley’s Hearts Foundation or the Trousdale County Animal Shelter.

Dunlap lawyer Stephen Thomas Greer died on August 6 at the age of 70. Greer attended the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review, and graduated in 1973. He then returned to Dunlap, where he practiced for 46 years. He was a member of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and served as its president from 2006-2007. Greer was also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and American College of Trial Lawyers. Contributions in Greer's memory may be made to the Sequatchie County Library Foundation, 227 Cherry Street, Dunlap.

Livingston attorney Bruce Edward Myers died on August 6. He was 76. Myers graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1966 with a degree in accounting, then after his service in the U.S. Army, he received his law degree at UT. A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Livingston attorney John Robert Officer died on August 6, at the age of 76. He was born in Overton County, and graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1966. He practiced law in Livingston for 53 years until his death. He also served as Overton County General Sessions Judge from 1998 through 2014 and was recognized for his work with the Genesis House, an organization for victims of domestic violence, with Child Advocacy Services, and with child abuse prevention and awareness in Overton County. Services for Officer will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the First Christian Church in Livingston, with the family welcoming friends just before the service at 1 p.m.

Memorial services for Crossville attorney Harry D. Sabine have been set for Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Community Church, 67 Church Drive, Pleasant Hill, TN 38578. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sabine's memory to the Art Circle Public Library in Crossville or the Cumberland County Chess Club.

Former Tennessee State Senate Majority Leader and Milan attorney William “Jerry” Flippin died on Saturday. He was 91. A founding partner of Flippin, Collins & Hill in Milan, he was a graduate of Vanderbilt Law School and had been an active member of the Tennessee Bar Association and other professional groups, serving for many years in the TBA House of Delegates and as chair of the Legal Section of the American Public Power Association. In a 2004 Tennessee Bar Foundation interview, Flippin talked about his  life and his career in the law. A memorial service will be held Aug. 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Milan.

Crossville attorney and former county commissioner Harry D. Sabine died Wednesday. He was 78. A University of Tennessee College of Law graduate, Sabine practiced law in Crossville for 51 years and was a longtime member of the TBA's Estate Planning and Probate Section. He also served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps and a JAG officer during his deployment to Vietnam in 1967. Details are not yet available on memorial services, 1057 News reports.

Germantown attorney Bernie M. Kustoff died on July 19 at the age of 81. Raised in Trumann, Arkansas, Kustoff earned his law degree at the University of Arkansas. He was licensed in 1964 and was a practicing attorney for 55 years, as well as a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and Memphis Bar Association. Services for Kustoff were held over the weekend.
