Memorial services were held last week for Lebanon attorney William Farmer, who passed away on Jan. 19 at the age of 82. Farmer received his law degree from the Nashville School of Law in 1973 and his legal career included appointments as prosecutor for the City of Lebanon and Lebanon City Attorney. He was also the first local attorney for the Nashville and Eastern Railroad Authority. Farmer was a Board Certified Civil Trial lawyer and was actively involved in both state and national Trial Lawyers Associations, serving as president of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers. He also served as president of the Wilson County Bar Association and as a member of the TBA’s House of Delegates. In 2003, the state Senate adopted a resolution in Farmer’s honor to acknowledge his “dedication to his profession, to the Democratic Party, and indeed to all citizens of this State.”

Former Knox County Circuit Court Judge Harold M. Wimberly Jr. died Jan. 24. A graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, he served on the circuit court from 1987 to 2014. Previous to that post, he served on the Knox County General Sessions Court. Memorial services will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Church Street United Methodist Church, 900 Henley St., Knoxville 37902. A receiving of friends will follow in the Parish Hall. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Memorial donations may be made to Church Street United Methodist Church and its Altar Guild.

Tullahoma lawyer Kenneth J. Shelton Jr. died Jan. 25 at the age of 65. Shelton earned his law degree from Memphis State University before going on to serve as an assistant district attorney in Coffee County for 36 years. Funeral services were held today in Tullahoma at the Trinity Lutheran Church, followed by burial services at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Trinity Lutheran Church, 705 Wilson Avenue, Tullahoma 37388, or the Tullahoma Sports Council, c/o Financial Management Advisors, 115 N. Jackson St., Tullahoma 37388.

The University of Tennessee College of Law will hold a special ceremony later this month to commemorate student Joseph Aaron Moore, who passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 1. Moore, 38, began law school at UT in the fall of 2016 and was employed as a law clerk at Shepherd & Associates in Maryville. He also worked in the College of Law Legal Clinic. Moore earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and worked as a lecturer prior to entering law school. The service will be held at 3 p.m. on Jan. 31 in the College of Law Rotunda. Johnson City lawyer Lee Davis died Friday following complications from a bone marrow disease. Davis, 77, earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University in 1967 and later became a certified public accountant. After working with a “Big 8” accounting firm and a real estate developer, Davis began practicing law in Mountain City. In 1978, he moved his practice to Johnson City, focusing on estate planning and probate, real estate, and business and tax matters. He retired from Hunter, Smith & Davis in 2014. Davis was a member of the Tri-Cities Estate Planning Council as well as the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils, serving as president of both organizations. No funeral services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the Johnson City Central Church of Christ, Rotary Foundation or MDS Foundation Inc.

Elizabethton Municipal Judge TJ Little Jr. died Dec. 28 at his lake home on Doe Creek in Butler. He was 67. Little earned his law degree from the University of Memphis School of Law in 1981 and was admitted to practice in the Eastern District federal courts in 1982. Little first joined the Elizabethton firm of Street, Banks, Merryman & Bautista and later opened his own practice in 1986. At the time of his death, he was serving as municipal judge for the city — a position he had held since 2007. A service to honor his life was held Wednesday. Burial took place yesterday in the Mausoleum of Faith at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of the Valley Forge United Methodist Church, 3974 Hwy. 19E, Elizabethton 37643.

T.D. Forrester, the longtime city attorney of Covington, died Sunday. He was 69. Forrester was appointed to the city attorney position in 2005 and served until his retirement in 2016. He first moved to Covington in 1975 to join the law practice of J. Houston Gordon. He later opened his own firm in the Lindo Hotel building. Funeral services were held yesterday at the First Presbyterian Church of Covington. Burial followed in Covington Memorial Gardens.

Former Nashville attorney Fred P. Graham died on Dec. 28 at his home in Washington, D.C. at the age of 88. Born in Little Rock, Graham attended high school in Nashville and earned his undergraduate degree from Yale. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea and Japan, he attended Vanderbilt University Law School where he also worked as a reporter for the Tennessean until receiving his law degree in 1959. Graham practiced law in Nashville before moving to Washington to serve as chief counsel of a Judiciary subcommittee under Sen. Estes Kefauver, D-Tennessee, and as an aide to Labor Secretary W. Willard Wirtz. In 1965, he became the first lawyer covering the Supreme Court for the New York Times, covering the 1971 Pentagon Papers case. Additionally, Graham served as a legal correspondent for the CBS network, as a local news anchor for Nashville’s ABC affiliate, WKRN, and in 1991 joined Court TV where he covered the trial of O.J. Simpson. Graham is survived by his wife, Skila Harris, and three children from his first marriage.

Longtime McMinnville attorney Larry Barton Stanley died Thursday. He was 78. Born in Spencer, Stanley was elected as state representative for Warren and Van Buren counties while he was a 21-year-old student at the University of Tennessee College of Law. He held that office until 1970, serving on the House Fiscal Review Committee during that time. He practiced law for many years in partnership with Bernard Smith and later Thomas Bratcher, and also served as Warren County Attorney for many years.

Retired Third Judicial District Circuit Court Judge John K. Wilson died Friday at 75. He was an assistant district attorney for eight years before being appointed by Gov. Lamar Alexander to the circuit court for Greene, Hamblen, Hawkins and Hancock counties, a position he held for 35 years. He retired in 2014. Funeral services took place Dec. 23 at the Doughty-Stevens Chapel in Greeneville.
