A memorial service for Judge Robert L. Childers' daughter, Lisa Kay Childers Dickerson, will be held Thursday at the Memphis Botanic Garden, 750 Cherry Road. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with the service to follow at 11 a.m. A reception with the family will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, any memorials should be sent to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Division IX of Shelby County Circuit Court will be closed this week, after the sudden death of Judge Robert L. Childers' daughter, Lisa Kay Childers Dickerson. Longtime Memphis attorney and civic leader Roane Waring Jr. died Tuesday (Aug. 28) at Methodist University Hospital. He was 95. A Memphis native, Mr. Waring earned his law degree from the University of Virginia after serving as a captain of the 24th Infantry during World War II. He practiced law for more than 50 years in Memphis and served in a variety of civic organizations, including the Memphis Urban League, Health and Welfare Planning Council, Family Service of Memphis, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Military Order of World Wars, Les Passes Treatment Center, and the vestry of Grace St. Luke's Episcopal Church, the Commercial Appeal reports. He was also a past president of the Memphis Bar Association and a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Edward Chapel at Trezevant Manor with services at 11 a.m. A reception will follow.

Laura Rule, who managed the Blount County office of Legal Aid of East Tennessee, died this morning (Aug. 31). She was 65. Ms. Rule was a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, where she was a member of the nationally ranked Labor Law Moot Court Team. After completing a judicial clerkship for the Hon. Samuel L. Lewis on the Tennessee Court of Appeals, she became an associate at Reid & Priest in Manhattan. In 1993, she returned to Tennessee to work with the Blount County Public Defender. She joined Legal Aid in 2001. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, 220 W. Broadway Ave. in Maryville. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 858 Louisville Road in Alcoa. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetary, 2304 Tuckaleechee Pike in Maryville. LAET’s Knoxville and Maryville offices will be closed on Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to the LAET Blount County Office, 307 Ellis Ave., Maryville, TN 37801.

Knoxville lawyer Ann Nigro died yesterday (Aug. 22) at the age of 93. Nigro graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1943 and was the first woman to receive the Moot Court Medal. After college she practiced law for two years at Southern and Southern and then opened a firm with her husband Judge Joseph J. Nigro. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy., Knoxville 37920. Services have been set for Memphis lawyer Earl C. Buckles, 69, who died Monday (Aug. 20). The memorial service will be 10 a.m. on Thursday at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., with visitation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, also at the funeral home. Mr. Buckles received a law degree from the University of Nebraska School of Law in 1970. He practiced law in a variety of ways throughout his career, working in large firms as well as in solo practice, and had been an adjunct professor of paralegal studies at the University of Memphis. He had an extensive knowledge of both Tennessee law and Uniform Commercial Code law and often served as a special judge in both civil and criminal courts. Read his obituary

Former Jackson Chancellor Eugene Brooks McLemore died Aug. 15 in Georgia. He was 92. He served in World War II, earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University, and was also a graduate of the National College of the Judiciary at the University of Nevada, Reno. He was licensed to practice law in 1949, and in private practice until 1960. He was president of the Judicial Conference of Tennessee,1966-67; served three terms in the State Senate; was chancellor of the 14th Chancery Division of Tennessee for more than 15 years until he was elected by the Supreme Court of Tennessee to be its executive secretary (now known as Administrative Director of the Courts). He later was elected attorney general. After retiring, Chancellor McLemore continued to serve as special justice of the Supreme Court and special judge of the Court of Appeals. Funeral services were Monday in Jackson, with entombment at Ridgecrest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to West Jackson Baptist Church. Read his obituary in the Jackson Sun

Services for Nashville attorney Amy Adams Gowan will be held at 1 p.m. today (Aug. 20) at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3701 Hillsboro Pike in Nashville. Visitation will precede the service, starting at 11 a.m. Gowan was 45. A graduate of the Nashville School of Law, Gowan had been with the firm of Hardeman & Montgomery since 2005. Before that she practiced with Ortale, Kelley, Herbert & Crawford. Gowan was diagnosed with ALS in 2009, and since then she and her husband, Robert, were active in efforts to combat the disease, forming Amy’s Army to take part in the ALS Walk, among other activities.
