Aaron Wyckoff, 71, died Dec. 24 from complications of Hodgkin's lymphoma. A native of Kentucky, Wyckoff moved to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt University. He graduated with a bachelor degree in 1965 and a law degree in 1968. He practiced law for a short time in Virginia Beach, and then worked in Nashville until his retirement in 2010. Among his many roles, Wyckoff spent time as an assistant district attorney, an assistant U.S. attorney and a lawyer in private practice. Wyckoff served on the board of directors of the Nashville Bar Association. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3900 West End Ave., Nashville 37205 at 11:30 a.m. this Friday (Jan. 3). Visitation with the family will begin at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church; Nashville Rescue Mission, 639 Lafayette St., Nashville, TN 37203; or the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, 300 Deaderick St., Nashville, TN 37201.

William Louis Pankey of Memphis died Dec. 22 at the age of 92. A graduate of Memphis State College, Pankey served in the Navy in World War II, then began his career in the jewelry business, eventually opening his own store, Pankey Diamond Jewelry. He later attended and graduated from the Southern Law School (a precursor to the University of Memphis School of Law). He graduated in 1952 as president of his class, though Pankey never practiced law, choosing instead to return to the jewelry and diamond business. Funeral services were Dec. 26. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the charity of one’s choice. The Memphis Commercial Appeal has more.

Retired Loudon attorney Walter Franklin Emmons III died Dec. 21 at the age of 85. Emmons earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1952 and worked in the financial field. He retired as senior vice president and general counsel at Mellon Financial Services, and was a Tennessee Bar Association senior counselor. Nashville attorney Aaron Wyckoff died Tuesday. He was 71. A memorial service is set for Jan. 3, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The Tennessean reports that additional details will be published over the weekend.

Former probate and juvenile court judge R.D. Campbell of Butler died Dec. 19 at the age of 90. Campbell held several positions in Johnson County including justice of the peace, county court magistrate for 18 years, chairman and vice chairman of the county court, county executive, probate judge and juvenile judge. He also was a member of the Tennessee/Virginia Development Board and the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency. Funeral services were conducted this past weekend. James J. McMahon died Tuesday (Dec. 17) in Memphis. He was 72. A graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, McMahon practiced as an IRS estate and gift tax attorney for several years, and began private practice in 1978. McMahon served as past president of the Federal Bar Association in Memphis and as chairman of the Tax, Probate and Trust Section of the Tennessee Bar Association. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home, with services immediately following. Burial will follow in Edmondson Cemetery in Southaven, Miss.

Former Ashland City and General Sessions Judge William R. “Bill” Baker died Dec. 12 at the age of 81. Baker received his law degree from Vanderbilt University and spent three years in the Foreign Service in northern Brazil. After returning to Tennessee, he opened a private law practice, served as general sessions judge from 1966 to 1974 and served as municipal judge from 1981 to 1988. Among his many distinctions, Baker served as a delegate to the 1965 Tennessee Constitutional Convention, as a member and chair of the Tennessee Claims Commission and as secretary-treasurer of the Tennessee General Sessions Judges Conference. Funeral services were today at St. Martha’s Catholic Church, The Tennessean reports. Col. Paul J McClure died Nov. 6 at the age of 93. Funeral services for the Vietnam War veteran and longtime Memphis attorney were held last Friday at the Colonial Park United Methodist Church. In 2008, McClure was featured in the December issue of the Tennessee Bar Journal for his commitment to pro bono work with low-income seniors after retiring from legal practice. "You just get satisfaction from trying to help people, hopefully helping," he said. "That's about all there is to it. I am appreciative to [the nursing homes] to let me come. It gives me something to do — otherwise I'd be taking naps or raking leaves."

Former district attorney and federal prosecutor Carl K. Kirkpatrick died Nov. 26. He was 77. A 1962 graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, Kirkpatrick attended the FBI’s National Law Institute at Quantico, Va., and was a graduate of the Executive Prosecutor Course at the Bates School of Law at the University of Houston. Kirkpatrick was the district attorney general in Tennessee’s Second Judicial District for 28 years and served as president of the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference. In 1993, Kirkpatrick was appointed by then-President Bill Clinton to be U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He served in that capacity until 2000. A Celebration of Life will be held Dec. 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church, 12915 Kingston Pike, Knoxville 37934. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Memphis lawyer and former TBA Board of Governors member Fred Moseley Acuff Jr. died Friday (Dec. 6) at the age of 67. Acuff earned his law degree from the University of Alabama in 1971 and began his legal career with the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. In 1973, he moved to Memphis to begin private practice, and from 1979 to 2004, he was a partner with the law firm of Humphreys Dunlap Wellford Acuff & Stanton. After the firm merged with Farris Bobango, Acuff remained a partner and was working there at the time of his death. Acuff also served as chair of the TBA Litigation Section and was a member of the board of governors in the late 1990s. He also was active in the Memphis Bar Association, serving for seven years as board chair of Memphis Legal Placement. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Canale Funeral Directors, 2700 Union Ave. Extended, Memphis 38112. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Grace St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1720 Peabody Ave., Memphis 38104.
