Nashville lawyer Kenneth Ray Jones Jr., a founding member of Jones Hawkins & Farmer PLC, died yesterday at the age of 60. Jones was a 1980 graduate of the Vanderbilt University Law School, where he served as executive editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review. As a lawyer, he maintained a litigation and mediation practice focused on civil, business and securities cases. He was named a Master of the Bench of the Harry Phillips American Inn of Court, and in 2014, was selected as a fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation. Visitation will take place Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the Hermitage Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.

Nashville lawyer Charles Michael Norton, a founding member of Bone McAllester Norton, died Saturday (Feb. 21) of Parkinson's disease. He was 66. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the law firm and on Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at Benton Chapel on the Vanderbilt University campus. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the chapel. A reception at St. Augustine’s Chapel will take place immediately following the funeral. Chattanooga lawyer James “Jim” Walter Gentry Jr. died last Tuesday (Feb. 10) at the age of 86. Gentry began law school at the University of North Carolina but withdrew to join the Marine Corps. After serving (and being wounded) in Korea, he attended Vanderbilt University Law School and completed his law degree in 1956. Gentry moved to Chattanooga and began practicing with several firms before forming Gentry & Boehm, which focused on environmental law cases. The firm dissolved in 1991 and Gentry rejoined Spears, Moore, Rebman & Williams, where he remained until retiring. Memorials may be made to the James W. and Margaret A. Gentry Scholarship at the University of the South, the Hospice of Chattanooga or MD Anderson Cancer Center. The funeral service will be private. Chattanoogan.com has more on his life.

Former Chattanooga Bar Association president Josiah “Jody” Carr Eggleston Baker, 85, died today (Feb. 10). Baker, who grew up in Chattanooga, graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School and the U.S Naval Intelligence School. He worked in Washington D.C. for four years but returned to Tennessee in 1995 to serve as deputy clerk and master of the Davidson County Chancery Court. In 1958, he relocated to Chattanooga and became a partner at Goins, Gammons, Baker and Robinson. In 1984, he started Josiah Baker and Associates, which later became Baker, Kinsman, Hollis, Clelland & Hogue. Funeral services will be held Friday at the First Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave. Visitation will take place from noon to 2 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. to be followed by a reception. Robert Killefer Jr. of Knoxville died Sunday (Feb. 8) at 84. Killefer grew up in southern California but attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and was a 1955 graduate of the University of Colorado Law School. He worked as an FBI special agent in several cities before settling down in Knoxville. There he worked as an investment officer at Valley Fidelity Bank and as head of the Trust Department at First Tennessee Bank. He retired in 1996. A graveside service will held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at noon at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. Knoxnews has more on his life.

Robert J. English died yesterday (Feb. 5). He was 76. English began his trial experience as an attorney for the City of Knoxville soon after his graduation from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1964. He represented individuals and their families in serious personal injury and wrongful death cases. A celebration of life will be held Feb. 15 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Central Baptist Church of Bearden. ?In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank or Central Baptist Church of Bearden.

Harry Ward Camp died Tuesday (Jan. 27) at 83. A graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, Camp practiced law for more than 50 years. Visitation will be at the Outreach Building of First United Methodist Church in McMinnville tonight from 6 - 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 12:30 - 2 p.m. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to the Good Neighbors Food Ministry of First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Main St.

TBA senior counselor Robert F. “Daddy Bob” Spann died Jan. 19 at the age of 83. He was living in Murfreesboro at the time. Spann graduated from the YMCA Night Law School and began practicing law in 1969. Visitation will be held at Arlington Methodist Church in Nashville tomorrow from 1 to 2:30 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service. Carlton Tarkington died yesterday (Jan. 20) at the age of 78. A Nashville native, Tarkington applied to Vanderbilt Law School at the suggestion of family friend and mentor, Judge Benson Trimble of Davidson County’s Fourth Circuit Court. After law school, Tarkington had a successful sales career with West Publishing and then founded a boutique investment firm, Edinburgh Investments, at which he continued to work until shortly before his death. In the late 1990s, Tarkington played a significant role in Vanderbilt Law School’s renovation and expansion. The Tarkington Suite, a library study area that includes a computer lab, computer classroom, a reading room and a study lounge, is named in his honor. Services are pending.

William “Bill” M. Cloud Jr. died Monday (Jan. 12). He was 72. Cloud’s law career spanned 40 years in private practice as well as time serving as an Assistant District Attorney. Visitation will be today from 3 - 8 p.m. at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home. Memorial services will be tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Hilldale United Methodist Church.
