Nashville attorney, entrepreneur and political advisor Frank Woods died Wednesday. He was 74. The Tennessean reports that Woods helped launch the Shop at Home Network, Country Music Television (CMT) and Media One. He also worked as an executive and broker for radio, television, cable networks, banks and real estate companies, but made a name for himself as an adviser, strategist and fundraiser for politicians, including Gov. Ned McWherter, U.S. Sen. Jim Sasser and U.S. Rep. Bob Clement. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Pike. The funeral will take place Monday at 2 p.m. at the church.

Former Tennessee legislator Kathryn Bowers died Wednesday at 72, the Commercial Appeal reports. Bowers was a Shelby County election commissioner in the 1970s and later chair of the Shelby County Democratic Party. She was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1995 and to the state Senate in 2005. Bowers had served just 15 days in the Senate before being caught up in the Tennessee Waltz corruption scandal.

Former Nashville Bar Association president Thomas H. Peebles III died Saturday (May 9) at 80. The son of the late General Sessions Judge Thomas H. Peebles Jr., he earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School and then joined the law firm of Trabue Sturdivant DeWitt, where he remained until he retired. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon, with funeral services to follow at Oakes & Nichols in Columbia. Burial will follow in St. John’s Churchyard at Ashwood. The Tennessean has more on Peebles' life.

Charles H. Findley died May 3 from complications of dementia. He was 91. A native of Pennsylvania, Findley earned his law degree from the Cleveland Marshall Law School. After passing the Ohio bar, he chose a career in business. He later relocated to Murfreesboro with General Electric Company and finished his career as president and CEO of the Heil-Quaker Corporation in Nashville. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro. Visitation will follow from 1 to 3 p.m. at West End United Methodist Church in Nashville.

Longtime Cheatham County Circuit Court Clerk Lloyd Harris died on Friday. He was 86. Harris served as court clerk for 24 years from 1966 to 1990. He also served as a county magistrate for 14 years. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cheatham County Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at the White/Reed Cemetery in Ashland City. Former Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association (TDLA) President Michael J. Philbin died Friday (April 24) at 69. Visitation is today from 5 to 7 p.m. and tomorrow from 10 to 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Nashville. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Philbin, a 1971 graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, practiced law in Nashville with Taylor, Philbin, Pigue, Marchetti & Bennett and its predecessor firms from 1971 to 1998. From 1998 until his death, he was a solo practioner and owner of Lawyer’s Escrow Service Inc. The Tennessean has more on his life.

Funeral services for Sam J. Watridge, 71, were held today in Humboldt after he died on Friday (April 24). A graduate of the Nashville School of Law, Watridge worked as editor of the Humboldt Chronicle for several years and in various jobs at the state Department of Employment Security. He left government service in 1986 to return to West Tennessee and open a law practice in Humboldt. During his later years, he served as city attorney and city judge. Stanley Louis Holtman, 74, died April 17 at his home in Mt. Pleasant. Holtman, a “country lawyer at heart,” practiced in Franklin, Mt. Pleasant and Columbia during his career. He earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1967. Funeral services were held this past Monday in Columbia, the Columbia Daily Herald reports.

Knoxville lawyer and former two-term mayor Kyle Copenhaver Testerman died Saturday (April 11). He was 80. A graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, Testerman served on the Knoxville City Council from 1969-1971; became Knoxville’s youngest elected mayor at the age of 35; led construction of the City and County Building and the TVA Towers; and consolidated the city and county public school system. A celebration of life will be held at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church April 21 at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service. Knoxnews has more on his life.

McGlothlin, who died yesterday (April 7), will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Easley First United Methodist Church in Easley, South Carolina.
