Charles Hill Beaty died Friday (June 12). He was 66. Beaty earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee and practiced in Gallatin for 40 years. He also served as Sumner County Criminal Court Judge in 1994. Visitation and a celebration of life were held today at Gallatin Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gallatin Church of Christ.

Sadness gripped the Tennessee legal community today as word began to circulate that the infant grandson of Chief Justice Sharon Lee and TBA member Peter Alliman, Lucas Austin Chermely, passed away last night. Lucas was born April 5 on the same day as his sisters, Grace Elizabeth and Julia Claire. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Rose Mortuary, Mann Heritage Chapel in Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may consider a memorial contribution to You Caring.

Funeral services were held this past Saturday for former Republican state Rep. Clint Callicott, who died Wednesday at his home in the Hickman County community of Only after a long struggle with colon cancer, Knoxnews reports. Callicott, 66, was elected to represent state House District 61 in 1988 and served through 1996, when he did not seek re-election and instead successfully ran for election as mayor of Williamson County. He held that post until 2002, when he opted to step down and move to Hickman County.

Bradley County lost one of its longtime office holders this week with the death of former Circuit Court Clerk Mary Elizabeth Carson, the Cleveland Daily Banner reports. Carson served at the Bradley County Courthouse for more than 20 years. The funeral service was yesterday, followed by interment in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Memphis lawyer William H. Fisher III died last Thursday (June 4) after a lengthy illness. He was 83. A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Church of The Holy Communion, 4645 Walnut Grove Rd., Memphis, TN. A reception will follow. Fisher received both his undergraduate and law degrees from Vanderbilt University and completed a master of law from NYU School of Law. He spent one year teaching at NYU and then returned to Memphis to a general law practice and part-time teaching assignment at Memphis State University Law School. Lawrence Maynard Magdovitz died May 24 after a long illness. A graduate of Vanderbilt Law School, Madgovitz practiced law for 52 years. He was licensed in Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi until the day he died. Services were held May 28 at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Daniel Meltzer, a Harvard Law School professor who served briefly as a top legal adviser to President Barack Obama, died Sunday (May 24). He was 63. Meltzer had served on the Harvard Law faculty since 1982 as an expert on federal courts and criminal procedure. He took a leave of absence from 2009 to 2010 to serve as the principal deputy counsel to the president. During his time in the administration he was key player on the Affordable Care Act, national security matters and preparation of U.S. Supreme Court appointees, the Associated Press reports in the Bristol Herald Courier.

Funeral services for Jackson lawyer Paul Foster Rice will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 200 South Church St., Jackson, TN 38301. The family will receive friends in Disciple Hall beginning at 9 a.m. Rice, who died Sunday (May 17) at age 58, earned his law degree from the Nashville School of Law in 1984 and began practicing law in Nashville before returning to Jackson to practice with his father and brother in the firm of Rice & Rice. Donald E. Warner Sr. died Friday (May 15). Warner, who graduated from Vanderbilt Law School, was a member of Leitner Warner et al from the early 1960s until his retirement in 1996. Visitation will be held tomorrow from 1 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Wann Funeral Home, with a graveside service to follow.
