The news item “Pulaski Working to Overcome Past” from Feb. 23 should have attributed advocacy for the relocation of the statute of Sam Davis and renaming of a park and sports stadium to Keidron Turner individually instead of the Community Advisory Council on Inclusive Recognition & Acknowledgement (CACIRA). CACIRA is not advocating for relocation, removal or renaming of any statue, plaque or stadium. This news item has been corrected on the TBA Today webpage.

A news item in yesterday’s TBA Today featured the Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law in Knoxville and its accreditation by the American Bar Association (ABA). In fact, the school received full ABA approval in 2019. The item also incorrectly identified the dean of the school. The current vice president and dean is Matthew R. Lyon. The school does have current news to report: the hiring of four new faculty members. Assistant Professor of Law Michele H. Berger joins the Academic Success and Bar Preparation Department from Gonzaga University School of Law. Professor of Law Stevie Swanson will teach property, secured transactions and an upper-level seminar on human trafficking. She joins the school following a one-year visitor appointment at the Mitchell Hamline School of Law. Visiting Assistant Professor of Law Willie Santana will be taking his first faculty appointment, teaching legal writing and criminal law related courses. He has been an assistant public defender in Tennessee’s Third Judicial District. And Assistant Professor of Law Thomas H. Shields III will teach civil procedure, business organization and business law-related electives. He most recently served as general counsel for Littlefield Holdings in Cumberland County. Read more about these new faculty members.

The story in yesterday’s issue of TBA Today about bar exam passage rates had incorrect data and ranking of schools for first-time test takers. The correct ranking should be as follows: Vanderbilt University Law School graduates recorded the highest passage rate – 100% percent for first timers – followed by University of Memphis School of Law at 94.1%, Belmont University College of Law at 75%, University of Tennessee College of Law at 66.7%, Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law at 50% and the Nashville School of Law at 10%. Access all exam data from the Board of Law Examiners here.

The link to volunteer for an upcoming legal clinic to help individuals and businesses affected by the Christmas day bombing in downtown Nashville was wrong in Friday’s issue of TBA Today. The correct link is here. The free clinic —a joint project of the Tennessee Bar Association, Nashville Bar Association, Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services, and Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee & the Cumberlands — will be held remotely by phone on Friday. Each appointment will last 30 minutes. Those needing assistance can schedule an appointment starting tomorrow by calling 615-953-4961.

A news item in yesterday’s issue of TBA Today was not clear that an order issued by the Tennessee Supreme Court contained two dates. The order suspended in-person court proceedings through the end of January and suspended jury trials through the end of February. The order applies to all municipal, juvenile, general sessions, trial, and appellate courts beginning Monday.
