News Type: Clarification

A news item in yesterday’s issue of TBA Today included a summary of the Nashville Bar Association’s Annual Meeting. One award that was accidently omitted from the story was the presentation of the Nashville Bar Journal's (NBJ) Contributor of the Year Award to Bart Pickett.

Wednesday’s issue of TBA Today contained a news item about an upcoming debate sponsored by the Memphis Lawyers’ Chapter of the Federalist Society, but inadvertently omitted the date. The event will take place Oct. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Madison Hotel, 79 Madison Ave., Memphis 38103. John L. Ryder of Harris Shelton Hanover Walsh and Gary K. Smith of Apperson Crump will discuss the merits of a constitutional amendment to change Tennessee’s method of judicial selection. U.S. District Court Judge John T. Many of our readers were curious to know when Tennessee added Walker County to our state ranks after reading our story Thursday "Walker County Courthouse Closed Due to Furlough." You did not miss major annexation news; Walker County is in Georgia, bordering Hamilton County.

The First Amendment Center notes that its event on Friday with key players in the “coup” that ousted governor Ray Blanton from office is by invitation only. A news item in yesterday’s issue of TBA Today listed young lawyers in Nashville who are finalists for the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and YP Nashville’s Emerging Leader Awards. Attorneys among the group that should have been included are Miranda Christy and Corinne Martin with Stites & Harbison, who have been nominated in the environment and sustainability category; and Meagan Frazier with Smith Harris & Carr, who has been nominated in the government and public affairs category. A story in Tuesday's issue of TBA Today reported on the Tennessee Supreme Court's order denying a petition to make changes to rules governing lawyer advertising. The story included a link to comments on the petition, but the listing did not contain all comments. A complete compilation of comments is now available and may be downloaded here.

News Type: Clarification

A news item in Tuesday’s issue of TBA Today reported the Feb. 13 death of Nashville lawyer Martin Ernest Simmons. However, it did not include details about his work immediately prior to his death. Since 2011, Simmons was of counsel to the Real Estate & Banking Group at Stites & Harbison. Read the full obituary in The Tennessean.

News Type: Clarification

In a story reported in the Dec. 21 TBA Today, one of the applicants for the 8th Judicial District chancellor, Andrew R. Tillman, was identified with his work address, which is in Knoxville. His residence is in Huntsville in Scott County. The position is for residents of Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, Scott and Union counties.

The end isn't quite as near as reported in yesterday's TBA Today. If you miss attending the TBA Ethics Roadshow at stops this week in Cookeville on Wednesday, Nashville on Thursday or Memphis on Friday you could still attend the Roadshow in Johnson City on Dec. 18.
