Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA), Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Nashville Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) will hold a pro bono tax consultation clinic for artists, musicians and creatives on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. CST. Attendees will learn how to file their taxes or can meet with a financial counselor to discuss ways to manage debt or repair credit scores. The clinic is presented by the United Way of Greater Nashville. It will take place at the FEC office, 217 South 10th St., Nashville 37206. Learn more or sign up to volunteer.

TBA Young Lawyers Division District Coordinator Caroline Rogers will be holding a TALS clinic in Johnson City on Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. EST. The event will take place at the Spark Plaza, 404 S. Members of the TBA Young Lawyers Division (YLD) participated in two clinics last week donating an estimated $10,000 in legal services. Board members Paige Barbeauld and Shelby Silvey organized an Essential Documents for Essential Workers clinic in Montgomery County serving 35 members of the Montgomery County Fire and Clarksville Police Departments. In addition, Belmont University College of Law joined forces with the YLD and Rutherford County Recovery Court’s Re-Entry Program to host an expungement clinic at the county's Adult Detention Center and Work Center. Board members Alix Rogers, Ross Smith and YLD attorney Ginny Blake worked alongside 10 students to assist 48 clients and complete paperwork to expunge 176 charges. See photos from the events.

A fair housing, consumer law and conservatorship clinic sponsored by Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) in partnership with The Hub will take place Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. CST. The clinic, which is held on the fourth Wednesday of the month, takes place at 590 Washington Ave., Memphis 38105. The Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers and Professionals for the Arts is joining the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings to provide free legal services for nonprofits and Black-owned small businesses in Nashville on Dec. 21. Advice will cover business formation, corporate governance, contracts and navigating local ordinances and state regulations. Eligible entities may receive up to one hour of assistance. A tax and financial clinic for artists, musicians and creatives will take place Dec. 6 from 5-7 p.m. CST at the Nashville Financial Empowerment Center, 217 S. 10th St., Nashville 37206. Hosted by Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA), Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Nashville Financial Empowerment Center (FEC), the clinic is free for income-qualified artists. Clients should register by Dec. 2 to reserve a spot to talk to a tax or financial expert.

TBA YLD, in partnership with Belmont University College of Law and the Administrative Office of the Courts Access to Justice Initiative, launched its first Essential Documents for Essential Workers clinic on Saturday. Volunteer attorneys met with officers from the Williamson County Police Department to draft and execute wills, powers of attorney and advanced healthcare directives. Nineteen attorneys and eight law students assisted 28 families during the clinic and provided $21,000 in free legal services. Special thank you to coordinator Charles Ferguson and to Thomas Reuters and Chambliss for their sponsorship. The Legal Aid Society will host a free legal clinic for Davidson County residents on Wednesday at the downtown Nashville Public Library, 615 Church St., Nashville 37219 4-6 p.m. CDT. Volunteer attorneys are needed to help provide legal advice. This legal clinic will help people with civil legal issues such as family law, consumer law, debt collections, power of attorney, employment law, health law, public benefits, housing, probate/estate, wills and bankruptcy.
