The Community Legal Center (CLC) will hold its Pro Se Parent's Clinic tomorrow and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST. The clinic assists non-custodial parents obtain visitation rights and those seeking uncontested divorces with minor children. On Thursday, Memphis Area Legal Services will hold its Courthouse Legal Advice Clinic from 1-3 p.m. CST at the Shelby County Courthouse. Legal Aid of Middle Tennessee & the Cumberlands will host two clinics this week. Tomorrow, the group will hold a clinic specifically for veterans from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST at Operation Stand Down, 1125 12th Ave. S., Nashville 37203. On Thursday, the group will hold a clinic from 3-4:30 p.m. at Greenhouse Ministries, 309 South Academy St., Murfreesboro 37130. All times central. Registration is now open for the next free advice clinic for Black-owned small businesses and nonprofits. The clinic, sponsored by the Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts and Bradley, provides assistance with business formation and corporate governance, review of contracts and guidance in navigating local ordinances and state regulations. The next clinic will take place Jan. 18, 2024. Attorneys should email vlpa@abcnashville.org to volunteer.

Severe weather impacted 11 Tennessee counties, with reports of 13 tornadoes on Saturday night. Six people died in Clarksville and Madison and 83 injured patients were rushed to area hospitals in the aftermath of what is likely the deadliest December for Middle Tennessee tornadoes on record, according to the Tennessean. Gov. Bill Lee and affected counties have issued state of emergency declarations and the Tennessee legal services community is prepared to provide assistance to those affected. The Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services' website Help4TN is always available with legal information and resources, and individuals with disaster related legal questions may call 844-HELP4TN and ask to speak with the expert disaster resilience attorney Nick Gau. The Legal Aid of Middle Tennessee & the Cumberlands will hold a general legal advice clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST at the Wayne County Justice Center, 1016 Ralph Horton Dr., Waynesboro 38485.

A legal clinic for veterans, sponsored by Memphis Area Legal Services Inc. and the Memphis Bar Association, will be held in Memphis on Dec. 12 from noon to 2 p.m. CST. The clinic will be at the Veterans Affairs’ (VA) social work offices at 575 Phelan Ave., Memphis 38126, but telephonic options are still available. Volunteers do not have to be certified by the VA to help. Cases include wills and estates, family law, child support, criminal defense, expungement, housing and consumer protection. Attorney volunteers are needed for the Tennessee Free Legal Answers Clinic to be held at Belmont Law School, 1901 15th Ave. S., Nashville, 37212 on Dec. 11 from 11 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. CST. Currently 2-3 volunteers are needed. For more information please contact Ginny Blake.

Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) will hold its monthly clinic at the Benjamin Hooks Library this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon CST. The library is located at 3030 Poplar Ave., Memphis 38111. Lawyers and non-lawyers are needed for this high-volume clinic. Questions commonly raised by clients include issues involving housing, family, consumer and employment law.
