It's Leap Year, so why not spend your extra day giving back to the community by volunteering with West Tennessee Legal Services (WTLS)? The group will hold a virtual Simple Wills and Power of Attorney Clinic during the day on Feb. 29 CST. All volunteers will participate virtually using the WTLS document automation software and calling clients to complete their needed documents. Attorney volunteers are needed for an Essential Documents for Essential Workers clinic at Belmont University’s Ministry Center on Feb. 24 from noon to 3:30 p.m. CST. At the clinic, attorney and law student volunteers will draft simple wills and powers of attorney for low income clients. Forms will be provided and no prior estate planning experience needed. Three legal clinics will take place Saturday across the state. In Knoxville, Legal Aid of East Tennessee will hold a Faith and Justice Legal Advice Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon EST. In Nashville, the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands will hold its McHugh Clinic from 9:30-11:30 a.m. CST. And in Memphis, the Memphis Bar Association will hold its second Saturday clinic at the Benjamin Hooks Central Library from 10 a.m. to noon CST.

Registration is now open through Feb. 12 for the next free advice clinic for Black-owned small businesses and nonprofits. The clinic, sponsored by the Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts and Bradley, provides assistance with business formation and corporate governance, review of contracts and guidance in navigating local ordinances and state regulations. The clinic will take place on Feb. 15. Attorneys should email vlpa@abcnashville.org to volunteer.

The Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville and its Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA) program will hold a pro bono clinic on Feb. 7 for those needing legal advice on issues surrounding their creative practice. The free 30-minute in-person appointments are available to income-qualified artists, musicians, creatives and arts organizations in the state. The clinic will run from 6-8 p.m. CDT at the McGruder Family Resource Center, 2013 25th Ave. N., Nashville 37208. Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) will hold a Thursday afternoon Courthouse Advice & Counsel Clinic starting at 1 p.m. CST at the Shelby County Courthouse, 140 Adams St., Room 134. Volunteer lawyers are needed to help clients navigating the court system. This clinic is held the first and third Thursdays of the month. The Memphis Bar Association will hold its Second Saturday Legal Clinic this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon CST at the Benjamin Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Ave., Memphis 38111.  Volunteers should arrive by 9:30 a.m. for instructions.

Legal Aid of Middle Tennessee & the Cumberlands (LAS) will hold a free legal clinic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST at the Southeast Branch Library, 5260 Hickory Hollow Pkwy., Ste. 201 in Antioch on Saturday. Next week, the group will hold four clinics: a disaster relief clinic in Gallatin on Tuesday, a veterans-only clinic at Operations Stand Down in Nashville on Wednesday, a clinic at Greenhouse Ministries in Murfreesboro on Thursday and the McHugh Clinic at Belmont University on Saturday.
