The Tennessee Faith & Justice Alliance, a project of the Tennessee Access to Justice Commission, will hold several virtual legal advice clinics in Knoxville on April 13-15. The event is being coordinated by the Knoxville Bar Association and its Access to Justice Committee; Legal Aid of East Tennessee; and the University of Tennessee College of Law. Volunteers are needed to take questions from the public. Sign up to volunteer here.

Legal organizations in Knoxville will hold a virtual Veterans Legal Advice Clinic on April 14 from noon to 2 p.m. EDT. The clinic is a general advice and referral clinic that serves between 20 and 30 veterans each month with a wide variety of legal issues. To volunteer, sign up online. Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee & the Cumberlands will hold two phone clinics next week for members of the public with questions about housing and renters’ rights, bankruptcy, medical bills, debt collection, domestic violence, SNAP benefits and unemployment benefits. Clinics are Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All times central. LAS is looking for attorneys to help answer questions. Austin Peay State University is seeking volunteer attorneys to help with a virtual legal clinic for the student body on March 29 from 3 to 5 p.m. CDT. The clinic is a free opportunity for students to discuss their civil legal problems with volunteer attorneys. The clinic will be conducted via Zoom and is not limited to local attorneys. The Knoxville Bar Association will host a Faith and Justice Legal Advice Clinic April 13-15. The Faith and Justice Alliance seeks to build a coalition of faith leaders in the Knoxville area and to host legal advice clinics to give people a less intimidating environment to talk to a lawyer. This is a general advice clinic with volunteers prepared to advise on a wide variety of legal issues, including family law, landlord/tenant, bankruptcy, criminal defense, consumer protection, contract disputes, child support and personal injury, among other issues. Participants have until April 7 to register for the clinic.

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands has announced dates for a series of virtual legal clinics to assist victims of the March 2020 Middle Tennessee tornadoes. The clinics, held for low-income residents of Davidson, Putnam and Wilson counties, will be staffed by pro bono attorneys with experience in legal issues stemming from natural disasters. The Davidson County clinic will be held this Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. CST. More information can be found here.

The Memphis Veterans Legal Clinic — a joint project of Memphis Area Legal Services, the Memphis Bar Association and the Memphis VA — will take place tomorrow from noon until 2 p.m. CST by telephone. If you would like to volunteer or have any questions about volunteering, please email Jake Dickerson. Lawyers are especially needed to help veterans with family law, wills and estates, employment issues, consumer protection, fair housing, criminal law and expungements. The clinic does not handle veterans’ benefit issues.
