The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee & the Cumberlands (LAS) will hold three legal clinics this week. On Tuesday, a phone clinic will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m.  On Wednesday, an in-person clinic for veterans will be held at Operation Stand Down, 1125 12th Ave. S. Nashville 37203, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then on Saturday, Aug. 28, an in-person clinic will be held at the Belmont Ministry Center, 2005 12th Ave. S. Nashville 37204. Clinics will offer advice on housing and renters’ rights, bankruptcy, medical bills, debt collection, domestic violence, SNAP benefits and unemployment benefits. All times central. The Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers and Professionals for the Arts and the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings will provide free legal services for Black-owned small businesses and nonprofits at a clinic next Thursday. Eligible businesses may receive up to one hour of pro bono legal assistance. Appointments are first come, first serve. Companies may sign up online. Nashville 37204. Next week, LAS will hold a phone clinic on Tuesday at 2-3:30 p.m. Both of these clinics will serve those with questions about housing and renters’ rights, bankruptcy, medical bills, debt collection, domestic violence, SNAP benefits and unemployment benefits. Then on Wednesday, a clinic will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for veterans only at Operation Stand Down Nashville, 1125 12th Ave. S. Nashville 37203. All times central. Knoxville area legal organizations will hold an in-person veterans’ legal advice clinic on Aug. 11 from noon to 2 p.m. EDT at the Knox County Public Defender’s Community Law Office, 1101 Liberty St. Those seeking advice should preregister at 865-637-0484. Lawyers who would like to volunteer can sign up online. Masks are optional but should be worn pursuant to CDC guidelines. Volunteers also must accept the terms of the KBA COVID-19 Safety Acknowledgement - Liability Waiver and Release of Claims. Volunteers may choose to continue volunteering by telephone.

Volunteer attorneys are needed for the Shelby County Expungement & Court Costs Clinic set for tomorrow in Memphis. The clinic will offer help with dismissal, diversion and conviction expungements, voter restoration and court cost waivers and covers charges filed in Shelby County only. The Memphis Bar Association and its Access to Justice Committee will hold a virtual legal advice clinic Friday from 1-3 p.m. CDT. The clinic will be held by Zoom and focus on the topics of debt relief and bankruptcy. Those needing legal advice should register online at 901legalconnect.org. The clinic is being held in collaboration with the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Office of General Counsel, Community Legal Center and Memphis Area Legal Services. It is sponsored by Ralston Buchanan Consumer Law Group.
