The Legal Aid Society (LAS) will host a free clinic May 16 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. CDT for victims of stalking or harassment. The event will take place at the Nashville Family Justice Center, 610 Murfreesboro Pike, Nashville 37210. Metro Police will be on hand to check cars for tracking devices while lawyers will offer legal advice. Those who plan to attend should bring emails, text messages, photos or anything else that depicts the harassment. Download a flyer for the clinic.

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands (LAS) will host four legal aid clinics in the Nashville area next week May 9-13. On May 10, the clinic Operation Stand Down will be held exclusively for veterans. Find out more on the LAS website.

The Second Quarter Restoration Clinic will be held at the Bordeaux-North Community Justice Center in Nashville, 2013 25th Ave. N. in Room 23, on Saturday, May 6, at 9 a.m. CDT. The clinic will offer pro bono legal counseling as well as a job fair. To get on the docket, call the Criminal Court Compliance Division at 615-880-3838. Registration is required by May 5 at 2:30 p.m. The event is limited to the first 100 registrants. Read more about the clinic.

The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberland will hold a free legal clinic in Antioch Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT. The clinic will take place at the southeast branch of the Nashville Public Library, 5260 Hickory Hollow Parkway, Ste. 202, Antioch 37013. The general civil clinic will assist clients with issues such as landlord/tenant disputes, family law, estate planning and debt collection. Those in need of assistance should register online. Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) will hold three legal clinics in May. The “Attorney of the Day Clinic” will take place May 4 and 18 from 1-3 p.m. CST at the Shelby County Courthouse, 140 Adams Ave., Room 134, Memphis 38103. The monthly clinic at the Benjamin Hooks Library will take place May 13 beginning at 10 a.m. The library is located at 3030 Poplar Ave., Memphis 38111. For both clinics, clients will be served on a first come, first served basis. For questions or to volunteer contact Heather Staggs or Walter Casey.

The Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville and its Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA) program will hold a pro bono clinic on May 3 for those needing legal advice on issues surrounding their creative practice. The free 30-minute in-person appointments are available to income-qualified artists, musicians, creatives and arts organizations in the state. The clinic will run from 6-8 p.m. CDT.  Those who would like to participate should register here. Lawyers are needed to help with an expungement clinic in Lebanon Thursday from 4-7 p.m. CDT. The event, which will handle cases from Wilson County, will take place at The Journey Church, 1240 Leeville Pike, Lebanon 37187. The Arts & Business Council's Volunteer Lawyers and Professionals for the Arts is joining the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings to provide free legal services for nonprofits and Black-owned small businesses in Nashville on April 20. Advice will cover business formation, corporate governance, contracts and navigating local ordinances and state regulations. Eligible entities may receive up to one hour of assistance. Clients should sign up online. Attorneys should email vlpa@abcnashville.org to volunteer.

President Joe Biden approved a major disaster declaration for Tennessee today. The designation allows federal disaster assistance to be made available to affected individuals in Cannon, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Lewis, Macon, McNairy, Rutherford, Tipton and Wayne counties for recovery efforts following storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes on March 31 and April 1. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. Those who sustained losses can begin applying for assistance online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362. Funding is also available for affected state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations. Learn more about ways to help.
