The TBA Young Lawyers Division will host two in-person Essential Documents for Essential Workers clinics this Saturday. Volunteer attorneys are still needed for the clinic in Cookeville, which will be held at the Cookeville Police Department from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT. Volunteers will meet with clients and enter client information into software that creates wills, powers of attorney and advanced health care directives. No prior experience is needed and a training session will be offered. Contact YLD District Representative Amber Vargas to help.

Legal Aid of Middle Tennessee & the Cumberlands will hold three legal clinics this week. On Wednesday, a legal clinic specifically for veterans will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT at Operation Stand Down, 1125 12th Ave. S., Nashville 37203. On Thursday, a clinic will be held at the Greenhouse Ministries, 309 South Academy St., Murfreesboro 37130 from 3-4:30 p.m. CDT. Then on Saturday, the Belmont Clinic will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. CDT at 2005 12th Ave. S., Nashville 37204. See all August clinics. To volunteer, contact Kendra Cheek, 615-780-7131.

Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS) is partnering with The Hub, which provides services and resources to Memphians experiencing homelessness, to host a free legal clinic next Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. CDT. The clinic, which will be held monthly on the fourth Wednesday, will take place at 590 Washington Ave., Memphis 38105. Memphis Area Legal Services will host its Attorney of the Day clinic this Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. CDT. During the clinic, volunteer attorneys will meet with pro se litigants to provide help and make referrals. Clients are seen on a first come first serve basis. The clinic takes place in Room 134 of the Judge D'Army Bailey Courthouse, 140 Adams Ave., Memphis 38103. Volunteer attorneys are needed to help. Sign up here.

One will be held at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office located at 940 New Salem Highway, Murfreesboro, 37129 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. CDT. Volunteer attorneys are needed to meet with clients and enter clients’ information into software which will create the wills. No prior experience is needed. There will be a virtual training session for volunteers prior to the event. Contact YLD District Representative Morgan Hanna to sign up to volunteer and for any questions. The second will be from 9 a.m.-1:00 p.m. CDT at the Cookeville Police Department located at 1019 Neal Street, Cookeville, TN 38501. The EDEW program offers free wills, powers of attorney and advanced health care directives to essential workers and their spouses. Volunteer attorneys, notaries and witnesses are needed. Tomorrow, the group will hold a clinic in Gallatin from 4:30-5:30 p.m. CDT at the Gallatin Civic Center, 210 Albert Gallatin Ave. On Wednesday, a legal clinic specifically for veterans will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT at Operation Stand Down, 1125 12th Ave. S., Nashville 37203. On Thursday, a clinic will be held at the Greenhouse Ministries, 309 South Academy St., Murfreesboro 37130 from 3-4:30 p.m. CDT, and on Saturday, the McHugh Clinic will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. CDT at 2005 12th Ave. S., Nashville 37204. A legal clinic for veterans will be held in Memphis next Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. CDT. The clinic will be moving back to an in-person forum, but virtual/telephonic options will still be available. No experience in legal issues specific to veterans is necessary for lawyers who would like to volunteer. Those interested in helping should contact Jake Dickerson.

Volunteers are needed for the Shelby County General Sessions Court Cost & Expungement Clinic on Aug. 12 at Southbrook Mall, 1254 E. Shelby Dr., Memphis 38116. No previous experience is required. Volunteer attorneys will primarily assist with presenting court cost waivers to the participating judges. Training and scripts will be provided. Visit the link to register.

The American Bar Association’s Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence will offer a free four-day training in August to improve the litigation skills of attorneys who represent survivors of domestic violence in contested custody cases. The Advanced Trial Skills Institute will be held virtually on Aug. 9, 11, 16 and 18. Registration is open until July 28. Funding for the program comes from the commission and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women. Attorneys who work at legal services agencies or nonprofit organizations are given priority admission. Read more about the program in the ABA Journal or start the application process.
