Hal Wilkins was disbarred from the practice of law on Jan. 28  for three complaints of misconduct. Wilkins was previously disbarred in another case on July 22, 2014. View the BPR notice.

Leroy Cain Jr. was suspended yesterday (Jan. 28). While representing the heir of an estate in a probate matter, Cain received a check from the purchaser of property being sold by the estate and released the purchase money to the seller without ensuring the delivery of clear title. Shelby County lawyer Venita Marie Martin was reinstated to the practice of law today by the Supreme Court. Martin had been suspended on Nov. 13, 2014, for failing to respond to a complaint of misconduct. On Dec. 11, 2014, she filed a petition for reinstatement, and on Jan. 12, a hearing panel recommended that the suspension be dissolved. Download the BPR notice.

Madison County lawyer Angela Jenkins-Hines was suspended from the practice of law on Jan. 23 for one year, however, the court allowed her to serve all but 60 days on probation so long as she meets two conditions: she must complete at least one hour of continuing legal education focused on trust accounting and engage a practice monitor during the probationary period. The court found that Jenkins-Hines used her trust account for personal and business purposes and had overdrafts in the account. She admitted to the misconduct. Download the BPR notice.

Shelby County lawyer John Robert Hershberger was reinstated to the active practice of law yesterday. He had been suspended in May 2014 for two years, with 60 days to be served on active suspension and the rest on probation. On Dec. 15, 2014, Hershberger submitted documentation to the Board of Professional Responsibility that all conditions for reinstatement had been met. He now will serve probation for the remainder of the term. View the BPR notice.

Kent Lowery Booher of Harriman was disbarred on Jan. 15. The Tennessee Supreme Court suspended Booher on Oct. 7 based upon of his conviction of statutory rape. The Board of Professional Responsibility instituted a formal proceeding to determine the extent of final discipline to be imposed. Booher entered a conditional guilty plea agreeing to a sanction of disbarment. View the BPR notice.

Arvin H. Reingold received a public censure on Jan. 13 for failing to advise his client that her case against her insurance company had been dismissed on the defendant’s motion for summary judgment. As a result, the client lost her right to appeal. View the BPR notice.

The Tennessee Supreme Court issued an order this week suspending one Tennessee-licensed attorney who did not file a mandatory compliance statement that eligible client funds are held in accounts participating in the Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program. A number of lawyers were reinstated to the practice of law after complying with Supreme Court Rule 21, which requires mandatory continuing legal education. Six of them had been suspended in 2014 for violations in 2013, while one was suspended in 2013 for failure to meet requirements in 2012. See the updated lists at the links above.

Williamson County lawyer Wendell J. O’Reilly was censured on Jan. 9 after the Board of Professional Responsibility determined that he failed to act diligently on behalf of his client and failed to adequately communicate with the client. The board also found that O’Reilly neglected the client’s civil matters causing dismissal of the proceedings, which was prejudicial to his client. View the BPR notice.
