Marshall Scott Smith was temporarily suspended from the practice of law upon finding that he misappropriated funds and posed a threat of substantial harm to the public. Angela Jenkins-Hines was reinstated to the practice of law on April 13. She was suspended on January 23 for a period of one year, with 60 days to be served on active suspension and the remainder to be served on probation subject to certain conditions. View the BPR notice.

The Tennessee Supreme Court reinstated Sevier County lawyer Elizabeth Catherine Cox (now Velasquez) to the practice of law on April 8. Velasquez was suspended on Jan. 30 for three years retroactive to Feb. 3, 2014, with one year to be served on active suspension and two years to be served on probation subject to conditions. Velasquez filed for reinstatement on Feb. 2. View the BPR notice.

Joseph Paul Calandriello was suspended on April 1 for three years based on four complaints of misconduct. The first complaint from the Davidson County District Attorney General reported Calandriello’s arrest for possession of a controlled substance, DUI, violation of the open container law and public intoxication. The other complainants reported that Calandriello had abandoned his practice and ceased communication. View the BPR notice.

The Tennessee Supreme Court issued two orders yesterday suspending Tennessee-licensed attorneys who did not pay their registration fee to the Board of Professional Responsibility and/or did not file a mandatory compliance statement that eligible client funds are held in accounts participating in the Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program. Those who have complied with the rules since the orders were issued, and for whom notification of a status change has been received from the Board of Professional Responsibility, are noted as reinstated. William Barnes of Memphis was suspended yesterday (March 31) for three years, with six months active suspension and two years and six months to be served in probation. Barnes failed to timely file a brief in a criminal appeal, failed to diligently prepare a personal injury lawsuit necessitating its voluntary dismissal, failed to consult with his clients prior to voluntarily dismissing that case, was not diligent in his representation of a party to a divorce, failed to advise his client in an employment discrimination matter that her case was dismissed on summary judgment, failed to timely file a brief in another criminal appeal and failed to adequately communicate with a client in a custody matter. The law license of William A. Davidson was transferred to disability inactive status on March 17. Davidson may return to the practice of law after reinstatement by the Tennessee Supreme Court upon showing of clear and convincing evidence that the disability has been removed. View the BPR notice.
