The Tennessee Supreme Court today temporarily suspended John Philip Parsons from the practice of law after he failed to respond to the Board of Professional Responsibility regarding a complaint of misconduct. Parsons, of Putnam County, is immediately precluded from accepting any new cases and must cease representing existing clients by Feb. 20. Read the BPR release.

The Tennessee Supreme Court today suspended the law license of Davidson County lawyer William Caldwell Hancock for one year and ordered Hancock to pay $22,126 in restitution as a condition of reinstatement. The suspension is effective Jan. 25. The court took the action after Hancock made allegations in a frivolous lawsuit with the purpose to embarrass or burden a third person. The opposing party expended $20,000 to defend the suit. Hancock appealed the decision to the Tennessee Supreme Court; his appeal was dismissed due to his failure to timely pay the litigation tax. The Tennessee Supreme Court today suspended Sumner County lawyer Garry Christopher Forsythe. The court took the action after Forsythe pleaded guilty to wire fraud and the court ordered the Board of Professional Responsibility to institute a formal proceeding to determine the extent of final discipline to be imposed. The Tennessee Supreme Court publicly censured Jeffery Lamont Warfield on Jan. 8. Warfield is licensed to practice law in Tennessee but has been living and practicing law in Guam. The reprimand was issued because of diligence, competence and communication issues related to the representation of two clients in criminal cases. Read the BPR release.

The Tennessee Supreme Court on Thursday disbarred Roane County lawyer Patricia Donice Butler. The Court took the action after Butler made false and misleading statements about members of a hearing panel, failed to diligently represent her clients, failed to communicate with her clients, failed to take necessary steps to protect her clients’ interest and failed to respond to Disciplinary Counsel investigating this case. The Tennessee Supreme Court on Thursday suspended Joseph Scott Bean Jr. from the practice of law for four years, retroactive to July 3, 3014. The Franklin County attorney had been  summarily suspended on July 3, 2014, following his guilty plea to the crime of theft in an amount over $10,000. Read the BPR release.

The Tennessee Supreme Court publicly censured Williamson County attorney Casey Coleman Truelove on Jan. 6. Truelove obtained the notary stamp of an associate attorney in her office, notarized a pleading and signed the associate’s name to the notarization without the associate’s authority. She filed the pleading and concluded the case before the misconduct was discovered. Read the BPR release.
