The law license of Shelby County lawyer Deidre Lynn Smith was transferred to disability inactive on Sept. 6. Smith may not practice law while on disability inactive status. She may return to the practice of law after reinstatement by showing of clear and convincing evidence that the disability has been removed and she is fit to resume the practice of law.

Greene County lawyer Edward Lee Kershaw was reinstated to the practice of law on Sept. 6 after having completed a four-month suspension. Kreshaw served one month on active suspension and three months on probation. He then filed a petition for reinstatement, which the Tennessee Supreme Court found to be satisfactory.

The Supreme Court of Tennessee on Wednesday suspended 127 Tennessee attorneys, 49 attorneys from out-of state and two international attorneys for failing to complete their annual continuing legal education requirements. The Supreme Court of Tennessee today disbarred Carter County lawyer Gregory Scott Norris from the practice of law and ordered him to pay restitution to eight former clients, totaling $17,360. After a trial, a hearing panel found that Norris failed to appear in court on numerous occasions, stopped corresponding with opposing attorneys, made incoherent arguments in court, took fees from clients for which he did little to no work, failed to advise clients of his temporary suspension, failed to communicate, failed to return files and abandoned numerous client matters. On January 26, 2018, Norris was temporarily suspended by the Supreme Court. That suspension is now dissolved.

By order of the Tennessee Supreme Court entered August 21, the law license of Fayette County lawyer Drew Justin Canale Jr. was transferred to disability inactive status pursuant to Section 27.3 of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9. Canale cannot practice law while on disability inactive status. He may return to the practice of law after reinstatement by the Tennessee Supreme Court upon showing of clear and convincing evidence that the disability has been removed and he is fit to resume the practice of law.

The Supreme Court of Tennessee today temporarily suspended Shelby County lawyer Thomas Francis Jackson III from the practice of law upon finding that Jackson failed to comply with a Supreme Court order entered on May 3. Jackson is immediately precluded from accepting any new cases, and he must cease representing existing clients by Sept. 20. After that date, Jackson shall not use any indicia of lawyer, legal assistant or law clerk nor maintain a presence where the practice of law is conducted.

By order of the Tennessee Supreme Court filed on Aug. 12, the disability inactive status of Davidson County lawyer David Harris was removed. He was originally placed on disability inactive status on Nov. 17, 2017, and petitioned the court for its removal on July 18 of this year.

By order of the Tennessee Supreme Court entered August 9, the law license of Williamson County lawyer Sandra Leah Wells was transferred to disability inactive status pursuant to Section 27.4 of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9. Wells cannot practice law while on disability inactive status. She may return to the practice of law after reinstatement by the Tennessee Supreme Court upon showing clear and convincing evidence that the disability has been removed and she is fit to resume the practice of law.
