Marcia Eason in line to take office June 2007

KNOXVILLE, June 17, 2005 — Marcia Meredith Eason, a member in the Chattanooga office of Miller & Martin PLLC, stepped into the position of vice president today during the Tennessee Bar Association’s annual convention in Knoxville.

Eason, who was elected in the spring, has served on the Tennessee Bar Association (TBA) Board of Governors since 1998 and currently is finishing a term as chair of the Membership Committee. She is a fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation as well as the American Bar Foundation. She also has served as president and treasurer for the Tennessee Lawyers Association for Women (TLAW), chair of the Court Environment Committee, and member of the Tennessee Supreme Court’s Committees for Racial and Ethnic and Gender Fairness, and Improving Public Trust in the Judicial System. In addition, she has been active in her local bar association, serving as chair of the Chattanooga Bar and its Public Relations Committee and Membership Services Committee. In her community, she has served as a director of the United Way of Greater Chattanooga and chair of the A.I.M. Center, which offers the mentally disabled a place to develop or regain vocational and social skills.

Eason attended Trinity University in Texas and earned her law degree from the University of Houston’s Bates College of Law in 1979. While in law school, she was Line Editor for the Houston Law Review. After completing her law degree, she joined the Houston law firm of Byrnes & Martin, where she practiced from 1983-1985.

At Miller & Martin, she concentrates her practice on civil litigation with an emphasis on commercial litigation, lender liability, products liability and professional liability, and has been involved in a number of complex cases, including failed banks and class actions. She also provides general risk management advice and product liability counsel for a pharmaceuticals company in the U.S. and Canada. She is licensed to practice in both Tennessee and Texas; and before the United States Supreme Court; the Fourth and Sixth Circuits of the United States

Courts of Appeal; and the Eastern, Middle and Western district courts for Tennessee. In addition, she is an approved Rule 31 mediator in Tennessee.

Taking office along with Eason today were President Bill Haltom of Memphis and President-elect Larry Wilks of Springfield. Haltom is a partner in the Memphis law firm of Thomason, Hendrix, Harvey, Johnson & Mitchell. Wilks is a practitioner in The Law Offices of Larry D. Wilks with locations in Springfield and Nashville.
