Springfield Lawyer Named TBA President-Elect

Larry Wilks will take helm of the association in June 2006

KNOXVILLE, June 17, 2005 — Springfield lawyer Larry D. Wilks was installed as president-elect of the Tennessee Bar Association today during the TBA’s annual convention.

Wilks is a 1977 graduate of the University of Tennessee and received his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1980. His practice, with locations in Springfield and Nashville, focuses on criminal law, estate litigation, ethics and personal responsibility and personal injury law.

As a young lawyer, Wilks was an active member of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Conference (the predecessor organization to the current Young Lawyers Division). He served as editor of The Quarterly – a publication of the Young Lawyers – from 1987-1988; as vice president from 1990-1991; and as president from 1991-1992. His dedication to the TBA has continued as his career has developed. From 1993-1998, he served as general counsel and from 1999-2003, he served as treasurer of the association. Since 1990, he has served on the TBA Board of Governors.

Wilks has been active in his local bar organization and community as well. He served as president of the Robertson County Bar Association from 1993 to 1996. In 2003, he served as president of the Robertson County Chapter University of Tennessee Alumni Association.

He is a Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Association and the Nashville Bar Association, and is a member of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association, the Bar Registry of Preeminent Lawyers, Tennessee Criminal Defense Lawyers, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the American Bar Association. He is admitted to the bar in Tennessee, the U.S. Federal Courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Wilks joins the new slate of officers for the 2005-2006 bar year, including President Bill Haltom and President-Elect Marcia Eason. Haltom is a partner in the Memphis law firm of Thomason, Hendrix, Harvey, Johnson & Mitchell. Eason is a member with the Chattanooga firm of Miller & Martin PLLC.
