Tennessee Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III has joined a coalition of attorneys general in urging Congress to adopt key changes to the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), which provides financial support to victims of violent crimes and their families. The changes advocated would stabilize the Crime Victims Fund and provide more flexibility to grantees, the officials say. Deposits to the fund originate from criminal fines, forfeited bail bonds, penalties and special assessments collected by U.S. Attorneys' offices, federal courts and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
