Award honors work helping lawyers adapt to emerging legal markets

NASHVILLE, June 27, 2016 – The Tennessee Bar Association (TBA) recognized Nashville lawyer Gail Vaughn Ashworth at its annual meeting last week. Outgoing president Bill Harbison presented Ashworth with the 2016 President’s Award for her work as chair of the TBA’s Special Committee on the Evolving Legal Market. In this role, Ashworth launched a multi-year initiative to research and explore technology-driven changes in the legal marketplace and how they affect lawyers in Tennessee. The committee will continue meeting throughout 2016 and 2017 with the goal of identifying ways in which the TBA can assist lawyers in adapting to the changing legal landscape.

Ashworth is a founding member of Wiseman Ashworth Law Group PLC. She has extensive experience in civil litigation. Ashworth has served as president of the TBA and the Nashville Bar Association, chair of the Tennessee Justice Center Board of Directors and chair of the Tennessee Legal Community Foundation. She currently is a trustee of the Nashville Bar Foundation and delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates. She also is involved in state and national organizations that teach leadership skills to lawyers.

The 2016 Tennessee Bar Association Annual Convention was held in conjunction with several other legal organizations, including the Tennessee Judicial Conference, the Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women (TLAW) and the Tennessee Alliance for Black Lawyers (TABL). This joint meeting allows legal groups in the state to address common issues and concerns and offers opportunities for additional education, long-range planning, and recognition of attorneys who have performed outstanding legal work and community service.
