“Legal Handbook for Tennessee Seniors” recognized by national legal group in Boston today

NASHVILLE, Aug. 7, 2014 – The Tennessee Bar Association today received the LexisNexis Community and Educational Outreach Award for production and distribution of the 2014 Legal Handbook for Tennessee Seniors. The award, given each year by the National Association of Bar Executives (NABE), was presented to the TBA during the NABE Annual Meeting in Boston.

In announcing the award, NABE leaders praised the breadth of information in the handbook, including timely sections on online security and the new health care legislation. The group also indicated it was impressed with the high level of volunteer involvement in the preparation and distribution of the handbook.

The TBA’s Public Education Committee created the handbook earlier this year and is continuing to conduct outreach and education across the state. The handbook contains practical information on topics ranging from Social Security benefits to long-term care considerations and estate planning. Since it was introduced in February, the handbook has been distributed to thousands of Tennesseans through live presentations and requests made directly with the TBA. The handbook also is available as a download and more than 8,000 visitors have been on the TBA’s website to learn more about the resource.

The LexisNexis Community & Educational Outreach Award honors outstanding public service and law-related education programs by state and local bar associations. Projects are judged based on the degree of innovation and originality, overall quality, effectiveness, adaptability by other bar associations, size and diversity of target audience, and scope, importance and duration of benefits provided to target audience.

The National Association of Bar Executives (NABE) was founded in 1941 to serve the management staff of bar associations and law-related organizations. It is an independent not-for-profit organization and an affiliate of the American Bar Association. The mission of the group is to enhance the skills and enrich the professional lives of bar association executives.
