Judge Thomas Wyatt will retire at the end of June after 12 years on the Tennessee Court of Workers’ Compensation Claims and a legal career spanning more than four decades. Wyatt earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee (now Winston) College of Law in 1980 and served as a law clerk to the late Court of Appeals Judge Herschel P. Franks before entering private practice in Chattanooga, where he focused primarily on personal injury, Social Security disability and workers’ compensation law. Appointed to the newly created Court of Workers’ Compensation Claims in 2014 and reappointed in 2020, Wyatt was recognized throughout his career for fairness, professionalism and service to the legal community, his colleague Judge Audrey Headrick says. Following retirement, Wyatt plans to volunteer with community ministries, continue teaching Sunday school, visit every courthouse in Tennessee and document those experiences in a book.
